Who I am

Thomas Mourier

Student at Northeastern University studying Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering. A lifelong resident of Winchester.

Welcome to the official website of Thomas Mourier, candidate for the Winchester Housing Authority. With a deep commitment to our community's seniors and a passion for ensuring affordable living options for all, I am dedicated to making Winchester a place where everyone can thrive, regardless of age or income level.

My name is Thomas Mourier, a resident of Winchester since I was two. I have attended the Winchester Public Schools throughout my entire education and was heavily involved in community efforts as a section leader with the WHS Chamber Singers. Last winter, Chambers worked towards fostering more inclusivity for our town’s senior citizens by caroling in assisted-living communities and bringing some Christmas spirit to the town center. At Northeastern University, I am affiliated with the ACES program, a volunteer student organization that supports community development in the greater Boston area. This semester, my project involves supporting Boston Building Resources with ensuring that Bostonians have access to affordable home construction supplies and the training needed to increase the value of their homes.

My main skills and experience lie within the field of engineering, an area sorely lacking in the Housing Authority. I would bring a problem-solving mindset to fix public transit for tenants as I take the Commuter Rail to Boston every day for school and feel firsthand the inadequate service that the MBTA provides our town. If elected, I will work to ensure that tenants are not dependent on cars but instead have access to multiple options of getting around the area, as an urban community should be able to provide.

Let's work for a better proposal

The current Waterfield lot proposal will advsersly impact our already struggling local businesses. Affordable housing needs to be built outside of the downtown area to not overwhelm our roads with additional congestion.

Improve transit for tenants

Many affordable housing tenants do not need to commute to Boston every day. Let's push for expansion of existing MBTA bus routes into Winchester and ensure that current stops are accessible for all residents.

Issues & Plans

Solutions for a Better Tomorrow in Winchester
What are the current issues troubling our community's supply of homes?

Waterfield Lot

The voters have cast their votes and deemed the current Waterfield Affoardable Housing Proposal as a poor financial decison for the town. So why is the Select Board still going ahead with it?

Instead of signing away the Waterfield lot to a Worcester based developer for a century, the town needs to consider less disruptive alternatives that do more to protect our most vulnerable population, our seniors.

LIMITED TRANSIT OPTIONS

Many tenants, especially seniors, face challenges accessing essential services and amenities due to limited public transit options in Winchester. It is essential for affordable housing to be built near bus lines to allow tenants to navigate Winchester and surrounding areas.

HIGH COST OF LIVING

The high cost of living in Winchester is making it increasingly difficult for residents, particularly seniors on fixed incomes, to afford housing and other necessities. We should not aim to raise taxes while we are funding so many educational improvements or risk losing our community members who have lived here the longest.

LACK OF SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR SENIORS

Many seniors in Winchester face challenges related to accessing necessary supportive services, such as healthcare, home care, and social services, leading to increased isolation and diminished quality of life. We need to advocate for further integration of the Jenks Center with the senior tenants living in affordable housing. This would involve expanding volunteer oppurtunities to get more students from WHS involved in giving back to their community.
